Plasma display panels(PDPs) has the performance of excellent color, large size, wide viewing angle, high brightness, fast response speed and high definition, so PDPs stand out from lots of flat-panel displays and become one of the best display terminals. However, high drive voltages results in higher power consumption and cost, it has seriously hampered the development and promotion of PDP. It is found that improving discharge cell structure can reduce the power consumption of alternating current plasma display panels(AC PDP). In order to reduce power consumption and the cost of high-voltage driver IC module, the study focused on the discharge cell and varied the X/Y electrode cell structure, the distance between the electrodes and the thickness of dielectric layer. This work mainly includes the following respects:1) The relationship between electric field with structure of discharge cell, was analyzed and stimulated by COMSOL Multiphysics software. The results suggested that, the greater the distance between the electrodes, the smaller the electric field strength in the discharge space; the thinner the dielectric layer thickness, the smaller the electric field strength in the discharge space; With cone-shaped electrode structure, compared with the parallel electrode structure, electric field strength within the discharge space was increased by 27%.2) On the basis of the simulation results, traditional discharge cell structures and new discharge cell structures were produced, and technical parameters of lithography, screen printing, electron beam coating technology were optimized.3) Different structures of discharge cell were tested, the results suggested that, it can effectively reduce the firing voltage of the PDP that changed structure of electrode reduced electrode spacing and thickness of the dielectric layer.4) The thickness of the dielectric layer and the structure of electrode are same, compared narrow distance of electrode with wide distance of electrode, the discharge voltage of the former was more.5) The thickness of the dielectric layer is same, and the structure of cone electrode is used, when the distance is same of electrode and cone, the discharge voltage of cone structure is significantly lower than the discharge voltage of parallel electrodes;when the distance is same of electrode,the discharge voltage of cone structure is significantly lower than the discharge voltage of parallel electrodes These results indicated that the structure of the cone electrode can effectively reduce the discharge voltage, and extended the discharge path, improved the luminous efficiency of the PDP.6) The distance of electrode and the structure of electrode are same, the discharge voltage of thick dielectric layer and thin dielectric layer were compared, the former was significantly lower than the later, These results indicated that the discharge voltage had significantly decreased by reducing the thickness of the dielectric layer.
