In recent years, the rapid development of semiconductor laser technology and the continuous improvement performance of semiconductor lasers make it widely used in fiber-optic communications and high-speed optical networks. With the increasing demand for high-speed, high-capacity and high-bandwidth of modern fiber optic network, the requirements of the semiconductor laser’s stability, linewidth and modulation bandwidth is also growing. Fabry-Perot( F-P) semiconductor laser has been widely used in commercial fiber network, but the output of F-P semiconductor laser is multimode, and the stability and modulation bandwidth is not so high, optical injection can let the output of a F-P semiconductor laser stability and single-mode, while increasing its direct 3dB modulation bandwidth. Optical injection in semiconductor laser has important applications in microwave creation, which is one of the key technologies in the Radio-over-Fibre( RoF) system.This thesis first introduces the development of semiconductor laser, optical injection in semiconductor and the applications of the nonlinear states in optical injection system. And then we try to analysis and do the simulation work with the help of the rate equation of semiconductor laser. Finally we study the different nonlinear states in the optical injection in detail and give some applications of the optical injection technology, that is, a method of measuring the enhancement factor of semiconductor laser and improving the direct 3d B modulation bandwidth of semiconductor. The main contents are summarized as follows:1. With the help of the semiconductor laser’s rate equation and the medium model, the simulation of the photon and carrier number density are carried out to monitor how they changed in the optical injection process.2. Different impaction on optical injection locking from various parameters has been studied, and the difference between the stable locked injection results by positive and negative detuning frequency between the master and slave laser is specifically discussed. Then, the optical spectrum and power of the output of the F-P laser in stable locking are discussed in detail. And the various nonlinear states have been studied in optical injection system. Finally we get the scatter pattern of the different nonlinear states is drawn and shown in the space of different power and frequency detuning.3. Preliminary study of the applications in the optical injection system is discussed. As discussed before, it is asymmetric for the boundaries of the stable locking space in the positive and negative frequency detuning, and this can be employed to measure the enhancement factor of semiconductor laser. As the frequency response of the direct modulation laser can be improved by optical injection, we give a detail discussion of the impaction on the frequency response of the F-P laser caused by the injection power and frequency detuning. Moreover, the tunable frequency microwave signal by optical injection is also mentioned.
