This paper mainly studies the multi target tracking problem in airborne early warning radar system(AWACS). AWACS is an important weapon in the modern air battle, relying on its height advantage and outstanding visual ability, searching and early warning capability has been greatly enhanced compared with ground radar, bought time to organize all kinds of weapon system for the effective defense. Tactics of aircraft formation is often used in modern war, this operation constitutes a great threat to aviation security. In order to cope with the possible threat from the air, AWACS is proposed including the ability to simultaneously track multiple targets(including fighter jets and cruise missile). Airborne early warning radar faces clutter, target maneuver ability, echo intensity during multiple target tracking, it is difficult to accurately target motion parameters with conventional multiple target tracking method. Based on the above research background, this paper studies improved method of multi target tracking with airborne radar measured data. The main work of this paper includes:1. Research on multi target tracking theory systematically, focus on tracking problem facing air fleet targets are analyzed.2. Analyses the influence factors of air target detection, the motion characteristics of multiple aerial target and early warning aircraft to air target measurement characteristics, track supplement is studied, providing theoretical basis for optimization of multiple aerial target tracking method.3. Aiming at the shortage of conventional track initiation algorithm of track initiation on air formation target, combined with the motion characteristics of air formation target, a precise initiation algorithm for formation target track is proposed. The algorithm uses the non preemptive fixed logic algorithm of track initiation, ensure the effective output real target track, then the path packets and redundant path elimination, eliminate the false track. Simulation by establishing the tracking model, validate the performance of precise initiation algorithm for formation target track.4. Aiming at error correlation leads to track interleaving problem between each individual target during formation target tracking process, this paper proposed an adaptive correlation gate technology innovatively, to constrain the gate direction by estimating the velocity direction, to restrict the window size by the relative position between the goal of previous time in formation and distribution characteristics of clutter and other parameters, a algorithm which direction and size can be adaptively adjusted window to design. Simulation by model simulation and a certain type of radar measured data validation, results show that the adaptive wave are algorithm can effectively track maneuvering target formations, get balance between stable tracking of maneuvering and reduce the error correlation.
