Because of its strong ability of transmission and low price, twisted-pair cable has become the most widely used transmission medium in the broadband access and Internet connection. In twisted-pair cable communication system, the attenuation and crosstalk are the largest factors impact on the performance of the system. Once the cable deployment is complete, the attenuation associated with cable quality is fixed. Therefore, crosstalk becomes the main parameter which restricted the rate of twisted-pair cable communication system.Although we have a lot of documents or papers related to twisted-pair cable communication system, most of the existing technology treats all crosstalk as noise which often be eliminated in order to improve the transmission capacity. But the far end crosstalk(FEXT) is useful to the receiver because of its side information. If we directly use the noise suppression, it will cost a lot of hardware resources and cause the waste of system resources. Therefore, it’s necessary to study how to utilize the far-end crosstalk to improve the transmission ability of twisted-pair cable. In addition, most literature and the latest technology proposed plan only for broadband access technology based on telephone line. But CAT5e/6 twisted-pair defined by TIA/EIA has a large number of deployments in the market, and its transmission rate has much potential to be enhanced. For the above situation, mainly works of this article are listed as follows:First, the thesis introduces the principle and feature of twisted-pair cable communication system, and lists the important parameters in twisted-pair cable communication system. Then digital subscriber line(DSL) system and Ethernet connection system which are commonly used in current twisted-pair cable system has been carried on the detailed introduction, and analyzes their advantages and disadvantages.Second, in view of the existing Cat5e/6 twisted-pair cable, the transmission ability of system is limited to 1Gbps. We propose a new twisted-pair adaptive rate transmission scheme at a high speed based on multiple inputs multiple outputs(MIMO). The scheme will treat FEXT as useful signals using the side information. So we can treat the cable channel as a joint MIMO system which can improve the signal processing gain and the transmission ability of the cable. Then we employ discrete multi-Tone(DMT) technology which is widely used in ADSL, and use of existing power allocation algorithm to realize adaptive bit-rate transmission. Theoretical analysis shows that the method can improve the transmission rate of the cable.At last, on the basis of the theoretical analysis, the simulation platform was designed using Matlab/Simulink. The simulation platform built a cable channel modules with real channel data, and can expediently display the transceiver transmission rate and bit error rate. The simulation platform for twisted-pair transmission system has important practical value because of providing performance evaluation and the convenience of hardware implementation.
