Currently, in the modern electronic systems that consist of communication system and radio system, the broadband waveguide power dividing network is the essential core component unit. When building the antenna array feed network, multi-channel transceiver components and other systems, it plays an important role, especially in the solid state power amplifier applications. The work band, insertion loss, the consistency of the amplitude and phase and the isolation between the output ports are all the key to the whole system, and also are the index that decide whether it is good or not.This article first analyzed the basic unit that composing the classical waveguide power dividing network, and then proposed a novel broadband five-port waveguide power diving and combining structure. This novel structure possesses broad work band, the high consistency of the amplitude and phase and isolation between the output ports, simplicity of fabrication and assembling and other properties. The creativity structure that this article proposed and the study of broad bandwidth power dividing network solved the technological problem of high consistency of amplitude and phase and isolation between output ports in a broad width. The main contents of this article are listed as follows.First, the research status and progress of the broadband waveguide power dividing networks in the country and abroad have been studied. Then the scattering matrix of four-port networks device that are used to design the networks in the engineering application are well analyzed. Meanwhile, the theory of the four-port device Riblet coupler and the six-port coupler has been studied. Then we propose a novel five-port power dividing and combining structure and analyze its basic theory.Second, a two-way waveguide power dividing and combining device is designed, fabricated and measured based on the above theory analysis. In the work bandwidth 32GHz-25 GHz, the measured results show that the insertion loss is lower than 0.2 d B, isolation between two output ports higher than 17 dB, phase difference between the two output ports smaller than ±0.7 degrees, amplitude error smaller than ±0.10 dB. According to the measured results, the structure of the narrow-band unit is redesigned and designed a broadband(21.2%) power divider in the Ka band.Third, based on the previous designation of two-way power dividing and combining unit, a 2n type eight-way broadband waveguide power dividing and combining network is designed and fabricated. In a fractional bandwidth of 20% around the center frequency of 33 GHz, tested results from the sample networks show that the insertion loss is lower than 0.35 dB, the reflection of the input and output ports better than 15 dB, isolation between the output ports higher than 17 d B, phase difference between the output ports smaller than ±1.5 degrees, amplitude error smaller than ±0.20 dB. Based on the eight-way power dividing network, a non-2n type ten-way power dividing network is designed.Finally, a summary on this article is provided and the further work and research orientation is proposed.
