Due to the feature of high power and efficiency, low operation voltage, small size, low weight and low cost, since the development of magnetron, the application field of magnetron has become wider and wider in last tens years. It was seen at several domains such as military, industry, agriculture and medical science. In our daily life, magnetrons are commonly used in microwave oven, but there are some differences compared with the magnetron present in this paper. Until now, the application of vacuum devices has been replaced by the semiconductor devices, so does the magnetron. But in some special fields such as superior medical devices, industrial testing equipment, oil pipelines heating equipment and so on, magnetron still plays an important role because its unique characteristics. Since the study of application becomes deeper, the magnetron will be used in more domains.In this paper, the manufacture method and application in medical electronic of a S band, 4.8MW magnetron was presented. Based on the M4543 magnetron from TOSHIBA, the magnetron was designed through the analysis and study of medical linear accelerator widely used abroad. Thesis mainly introduced the structure, key technology, manufacture process and application condition, optimization scheme was obtained through the analysis of problems occurred in the design process. During the design of the magnetron, the calculation of the size of anode, development of heater and the design of output component were accomplished. In order to avoid the radiation of thoriated tungsten cathode, barium tungsten was used to replace the original material. Furthermore, match experiment was done in the system, and compared the designed magnetron with the prototype tube in details. It was shown that the designed magnetron could perfectly replace the prototype tube. Considering the application results, it was a success of the research, which filled in the gap of the application in medical accelerator of magnetron in China. But there still had some problems, according to these problems, several ideas were proposed in the paper, and there was a plan that the manufacture means would be optimized in the coming work, to gain the purpose of improving the general performance of magnetron. At the same time, there are some advise of medical magnetron application in the view of industrial development.Also, the application of magnetron in medical field was introduced in the thesis, mainly analyzed the marketing and producer circumstance of medical magnetron.Furthermore, the microwave studio of CST code was used to simulated and verify the design method in the study. There were also some brief introductions of simulation results with CST code.
