As an inevitable product of the development of computer networks, network management has become an indispensable part of the modern information network being increasingly expanded, while it becomes more and more complex and heterogeneous.The Geographic Information System(GIS) which is an important geography technology as a new research area of the information technology has a broad prospect. It’s a hot spot that network management technology is integratied with the GIS technology to enhance the ability of network management system.Most of domestic network management systems based on the GIS focus on wired networks or cellular communication systems. It is worth exploring the field that how to incorporate the GIS technology to resolve the issues inaccessible to plan,deploy,reconstruct and monitor networks in ways that improve the capacity for network planning and monitoring.Firstly, this paper summarizes concepts and features of the GIS, network management and wireless mobile networks. It addresses the status and the existing problems, brings forward the thinking that network management system is used to conduct configuration management and faulty managent to facilitate the ability of network management.Secondly, centered on current state of the mobile network, the paper analyses the application of network planning and monitoring on the GIS. Furthermore, it also introduces the application of the GIS in graphic planning, presentation of layered topology, analysis of coverage of radio signals, analysis of wireless-link connectivity, radio-frequency planning, node-position monitoring and link-status monitoring.Thirdly,The design of the wireless mobile network management system is presented. It encompasses the following aspects including the compostion of architecture of the system, management patterns, and the general framework of software. It turns out physical topological planning and its presentation on the GIS footing. And it gives high priority to expounding the key functional modules of the GIS. Focusing on the application of the GIS in the mobile network management system, the paper brings out the practical effect and the test results.Finally, we summarize what we have studied and talk about the existing shortcomings and the field to further study.Pratice and a series of tests have proven that by introducing the wireless mobile network management system with the GIS, The system can better help network managers handle networks,improve the efficiency to plan networks and enhance the rationality of the planning.As a result, it minimizes the difficulty of the planning and improves the ability to monitor the network and adjust it dynamically.
