Data Backup And Disaster Recovery Technology Application Based On Exchange Extensible Storage Engine

As the information society develops to a certain stage, the data has became the business foundation and lifeline of all industries. Storage devices have replaced the traditional paper and became the major carriers of data. Since data is valuable information assets to all enterprises, data security has been filtered into people’s mind.It can hardly imagine the disastrous consequences of data loss caused by the following factors: earthquake, tsunami and other natural factors, the wrong operation of human during data transaction, and the invasion of hackers. These will not only result in the business confusion, also damage the property obviously and incalculably. How to keep data security--- restore in time or defend actively--- has became the problem which enterprises have to think and solve. In this regard, e-mail, which is one of enterprises’ data, should be considered. As it is known to all, Microsoft launches the world leading messaging and collaboration systems---Microsoft Exchange Server. With its great reliability, scalability and stability, it is widely used in the corporate e-mail system. Due to the unpredictability of disaster, Exchange Server is also confronted with data loss, which brings massive test to the disaster recovery capability of Exchange Server. Therefore, it is extremely urgent to use the Exchange Server disaster recovery technology to safeguard the security of the data.Extensible Storage Engine(ESE) is one of the most common disaster recovery technology for Exchange Server. It can backup the data before disaster and recover the data after disaster. Combining this technique with the support of file systems introduced by Rose Datasystems, SQL Server, Sybase and RoseBackup---the disaster tolerance products which exchange data for backup and recovery, the author designed and developed Exchplus.DLL dynamic libraries.The dynamic library can obtain the storage group/mailbox database configuration information, and backup the Exchange Server mailbox data to a remote server. It can also remotely backup data to the original server partly or fully, or redirect to another server. Therefore, the Exchange Server mailbox data will be protected, and the huge losses causing by unexpected disasters will be reduced or even avoided.
