3D virtual fitness system is a system that contains fitness equipment and virtual scene for user entertainment, and has functions of fun and fitness. After a long way development, fitness system is more and more popular and various systems are being developed. However, most of these systems have some defects on the ability of entertainment, effectiveness, or guidance.After a deep survey on the existing systems and the research background, we find that three key points should be considered when designing a fitness system, including natural interface, personalized customization and reasonable guidance. Furthermore, we design a user central personalized 3D virtual fitness system(PVFS) considering the key points. PVFS is a framework about how to develop a fitness system including hardware and software, and compromises the ability of entertainment, effectiveness and guidance. PVFS hardware system is consist of fitness equipment, natural interactive equipment, condition monitoring equipment and equipment for operating the system. PVFS software system comprises of three layers, including interactive layer, core layer and fundamental layer. Interactive layer is for the interaction between user and virtual system, core layer is responsible for hardware managing and software operating, and fundamental layer provides basic functions including database module and network module. The traits of PVFS contains natural semantic based human-computer interaction, positive personalized customization, and feedback regulation based on physiological signals, system presents and sports strategy.To prove the feasibility of PVFS, we implement a personalized 3D riding fitness system(PMG) based on the rules of PVFS. In PMG, fitness bicycle is for user sporting, Kinect sensor is used for gesture recognizing and tracking, which will form a semantic based gesture interactive interface, and permit user to custom the system on high level, while heart-rate detective sensor can monitor the user condition in real time, which will pilot user to a more effective sports strategy subconsciously through a feedback regulation system based on scientific prescription. The result shows that the method in this thesis has distinctive features, and has feasibility. In the same time, more efforts should be put on the design of fitness system for the limitation of hardware and algorithm which is an important aspect, and will be left further.
