Augmented reality (AR) is a technology, which combines computer-generated virtual information with real-world environment to enhance one’s current perception of reality and provides better immersion, experience for users. Recently, with the improvement of handled device’s hardware configuration and performance levels, the augmented reality technology is gradually applied on handled devices.The traditional museum guide methods is simple and boring, less the amount of information and the poor human-computer interaction. The paper designs and realizes a novel museum guide system based on mobile augmented reality technology. Compared with the existing museum guide methods, the system abandons the boring guide method and provides a more diverse, vivid cultural information. It Brings a more humanized way of human-computer interaction.The main studies and achievements of thesis are listed as following.First, from the user’s perspective, the functional requirements and system architecture of mobile augmented reality digital museum guide system are analyzed. Then it designed the overall architecture and logical structure of mobile augmented reality digital museum. According to the real-time system, the paper proposed to position visitors’current area by WiFi positioning firstly, in order to reduce the number of cultural relics which need to recognize, and then using computer vision technology to identify the cultural relics. According to the diversity of the intelligent mobile phone, the paper proposed a dual-mode exhibits recognition architecture, which combines the server-side and phone-side.Then, the paper makes a detailed research on each function module of mobile augmented reality digital museum guide system on the platform of Android. In WiFi positioning module, it used fingerprint localization algorithm to locate the tourists current area and it used the electronic compass to detect the direction information of terminal. In the feature detection and tracking registration module, it combined FAST and SURF to improve the recognition speed and stability.Finally, the paper makes a detailed research on each function module, system’ comprehensive performance and real-time performance of mobile augmented reality digital museum guide system. It verifies the accuracy and the efficiency of positioning and FAST-SURF algorithm. The experimental results show that the system can not only combine virtual heritage information with the real environment and provide a realistic interactive experience for visitors, but also has a good real-time performance and stability.
