The paper used the GUI interface of Matlab to develop a software which were based on the theory of non- imaging optics and free-form surface design. The software included six kinds of free-form lens which could realize that as long as you input necessary parameters then you could get the contour of lens. Simplified the process of designing for free-form lens. Then applied the software to indoor and LED automotive headlamp illumination system, the results of simulation were in line with national standards. The main contents of this paper were as follows:(1) In order to improve the efficiency of the designing for free-form lens,mainly developed a optics design software which were applied to solve practical illumination solutions. The software includes six conventional lens and 6 free-form lens. The conventional lens used the “Research on the optical systems of the LED automotive headlamp based on non-imaging” as a reference to design. The design for free-form lens were mainly studied in this paper. The software using the size of construction as the main design parameters to optimize the contour of lens, shorten the design cycle and improved the efficiency.(2) When the LED were regarded as a point in the system. First designed three types of free-form lens for different distribution angle and applications by Grid parathion method Then designed a lens which could form a rectangular beam on the target surface. To correspond with the development of LED, researched the method of Simultaneous Multiple Surface(SMS) to solve the problem that the size of LED could not be regarded as a point. Set up its math models for extended light source,According to this method designed two lens.(3) The software were applied to design lighting systems of indoor lighting and LED automotive headlamp. Emulated and rayed tracing the system in Trace-pro and DIAlux, the results were proved to meet the requirement of national standard after analysing. Compared with the quadric lens, the light energy utilization efficiency were proved to be increased with free-form lens, and so is illumination uniformity.Also, it could be seen above that the software designed in this paper could improve design efficiency and simplify design process in practical use.
