High power microwave has vast potential for future development in many fields. With the development of high power microwave technology, more and more attention has been paid to the high power phased array systems. The antennas and phase shifters are two important parts of the phased array system; however, the traditional antenna and phase shifter are not suitable for the high power phased arrays which require high power-handling capacity. Therefore the research on the high power antennas and the high power phase shifters is greatly important in the realization of the high power phased array systems.The first half in the thesis discusses the research and design on the high power antenna. At first, the design theory of the traditional waveguide slot antenna is analyzed; incapability of power-handling capacity in the traditional waveguide slot antenna is also discussed. Then on these basis, two kinds of novel waveguide slot antennas are presented, which include the D-shape waveguide slot antenna and the double D-shape waveguide slot antenna. The simulated results demonstrate that the power-handling capacity of the two kinds of novel waveguide slot antennas proposed in the thesis is much higher than that of the traditional waveguide slot antenna.The second half in the thesis presents the design and realization on the high power phase shifter. First of all, the design procedure of the traditional waveguide phase shifter is researched. Also, the inability of traditional waveguide phase shifters to handle high power is also discussed. Then two kinds of novel waveguide phase shifters are proposed, which include the electronically controlled waveguide phase shifter and the optically controlled waveguide phase shifter. Compared to the traditional waveguide phase shifter, it has been justified that the proposed phase shifters exhibit much higher power-handling capacity, with the aid of simulation results. Finally, the electronically controllable waveguide phase shifter is fabricated and measured. The measured results demonstrate that the designed phase shifter performs well.
