High Power Microwave Phase Shifter

This paper gives a brief introduction of the research progress about the high power microwave phase shifter. Based on it, a new kind of high power microwave phase shifter is described and analyzed. The circular waveguide is transformed to the elliptical waveguide by pressing the circular waveguide. The phase shifts will occur because of the difference of the phase factorβin the circular waveguide and the elliptical waveguide. By simulating and analyzing the S wave band with single mode of this new kind of high power microwave phase shifter, it's found that great phase shifts and low insertion loss will be obtained by selecting the outline of the transformation segment. Meanwhile the power capacity of phase shifter will increase.Detailed investigation about the field expressions and eigenmodes in the elliptical waveguide have been given in the chapter 3. Mathieu function is the base of the field theory analysis in the elliptical cylinder coordinate system. So, firstly detailed investigation has been given about the problem of numerical analysis of Mathieu functions. Based on it, the roots of the first modified Mathieu functions and their derivative have been calculated.In the chapter 4 and chapter 5, the transmission characteristics of this new kind of high power microwave phase shifter have been analyzed numerically by using the mode-matching method. By abundant calculation, the X wave band with overmode of this new kind of high power microwave phase shifter is rough designed.Finally, a brief summary of the conclusion and deficiency about this paper have been given, the further work emphasis and difficulty have also been pointed out in the last chapter.
