Three dimensional (3D) displays have been research hotspots for many years. Even various kinds of 3D displays have been developed both in academic circles and in industrial circles, the enthusiasm on 3D displays has never dissipated. Recently, a new 3D display principle proposed by computer science field has leaded the latest research direction. It based on light field reconstruction and owns several advantages, including naked eye observation, correct occlusion, large viewing field and viewable for many people at the same time. It is more suitable to represent the real scene. By combining with the spliced view-field approach, we can achieve a scalable light field 3D display. As a low cost somatosensory device, Kinect provide an inexpensive solution for real-time capturing of users’ appearance, movement and voice. By choose and compress data reasonably, we can transfer information through the Internet in real-time.A prototype of 3D telecommunication system is introduced, using integral light field display and Kinect-based capture. Two prototypes with LCD-based projection display and multi-projectors-based display, respectively, are developed to perform the 3D display. Kinect-based 3D capture is integrated in providing preliminary and real-time human model capture. This approach is scalable and demonstrated as a potential solution for market-oriented 3D telecommunication.
