Compared to the traditional communication media,optical fiber has the advantagesof large capacity,long transmission distance,strong corrosion resistance etc,so it iswidely used in communication system.With the development of optical fibertechnology,it will play an increasingly important role in the field of moderncommunication.However,the management and maintenance of optical fiber networkbecomes a serious problem.Traditional way of optical fiber management has manyproblems such as long time of repair,low degree of automation etc.So it is not conduciveto the rapid elimination of the fault.In order to solve the above problems,this paper designs a set of optical fibermonitoring system.The system monitors optical fiber actively in real-time.When a faultoccurs,it reports the fault information in a short time,so as to shorten the maintenanceduration,reduce the loss and ease the burden of staff,realizing the real-time andautomatic monitoring of optical fiber.The main work of this paper includes:Firstly,this paper introduces the research background and significance of the topicand the research status at home and abroad,illustating the problem of traditional opticalfiber monitoring and our general idea of research on optical fiber monitoring technique.Then,this paper describes the basic principle of OTDR,Golay complementary codesautocorrelation technique and optical fiber monitoring technique,as a theoretical basisfor the following chapters.After theoretical analysis,this paper discusses the design process of OTDR andreal-time monitoring system for optical fiber.In the design of OTDR,we use CPLD assignal processor,with optical transmitter and optical receiver,realizing the function ofoptical fiber detection.We also introduce Golay complementary codes autocorrelationtechnique to improve the dynamic range and SNR of OTDR.In the design of real-timemonitoring system for optical fiber,we use ARM as the main controller to control OTDRand other modules work, realizing the function of real-time monitoring for opticalfiber.When a fault occurs,the system reports the fault information immediately throughshort message and site map.Finally,this paper presents the MATLAB simulation results of OTDR to verify thefeasibility of Golay complementary codes in OTDR,then gives the test data of monitoring system for optical fiber in actual use to prove the real-time and effectivenessof the system.
