Workflow management system has been widely used as the process engine in theinformation system of all works of life. But various information systems have hugedifference in related functions and performance requirements in the workflowinformation system. It often requires a lot of technical support and development tosatisfy the specific needs. But the system requirement always varies with the timemoved on. So, to make the developed system not dramatically changed and only minoradjustment to satisfy the various system requirements are the urgent problem to besolved. Design and implementation of a industry oriented customizable workflowsystem with high performance is the task of this paper. The system is verified to bescalable and with high performance.Firstly, the development of the workflow system and the major products waspresented, then the contents and the aim of the paper was proposed according to theanalysis of current research as well as the challenges and demands at home and abroad.Secondly, the paper presents a customizable workflow management systemarchitecture, including the Web tier expansion, database expansion, personnel organizeexpansion and process modeling components expansion: load balancing has been usedto achieve Web tier expansion, horizontal segmentation has been used to achievedatabase extension, providing the staff organizational interface to achieve personnelorganize expansion, business components has been used to achieve process modelingcomponents expansion. According to specific system requirement, the extensionmechanism can be combination and to process customization flexibly.Then, the paper presents modeling technology based on the business component which achieving the flexible support for third-party components as well as saving thedesign process to configuration of the active components. As a result I achieve theindustry-oriented workflow customization. Meanwhile, the paper aim at thehigh-performance process engine, focusing on the design of Web tier load balancing,universal database access layer and distributed cache, improve the system reliabilityand performance through load balancing, effectively solve the database connectionproblems caused by database access layer horizontal expansion and introduce thedistributed cache to further ensure the efficiency and expansibility of the engine.Finally, by the testing and analysis result of the numbers of the concurrent,response time, and combining with other application case, this paper has described acustomized workflow system with high performance and expansibility for the industry.
