With the rapid development of railway transportation, the traditional train operation control system which was constructed by the design principles of functional superposition has been unable to meet the needs of the new situation. Under the premise of operating safely, efficiently at high-speed, the next generation of train operation control system aimed to realize the technology goals such as energy saving and environmental protection, cost-cutting, and improve the reliability and compatibility. As the core hardware equipment of the train operation control system, the safety computer was one of the focuses of research on the next generation of train operation control system. As a part of the safety computer, the communication controller was an important module which undertakes the functions of external communication interface and internal data forwarding, and its design and implementation have important significance in the construction of the next generation of train operation control system safety computer. So, a safety computer platform structure for the next generation of train operation control system was proposed in this article, guiding the design and implementation of the communication controller module in safety computer platform.Based on the domestic and foreign researches, the current preliminary conception which has been achieved agreement for the next generation of train operation control system has been analyzed in this article, the exploration deployment has been made for the application of safety computer platform, and then the functional requirements of the safety computer for the next generation of train operation control system was proposed, the design ideas and the realization principles were put forward according to these requirements, and the design of the whole structure of the safety computer platform was completed at last.In terms of hardware, the design concept of COTS and heterogeneous structure principles was took into consideration, the PC104computer module which was based on the X86architecture and the PMC computer module which was based on the PowerPC architecture were both used as the main control hardware platform of the communication controller. Communication between the devices rely on a dedicated high-speed communication bus and IO bus which was self-designed, and the bus controller was realized based on FGPA and Verilog programming language. PCB drafts of two block communication boards were completed. In terms of software, the Vxworks embedded real-time operating system was used as the system software of the main control hardware platform and the modification of BSP and operating system transplantation were both completed. Besides, the network communication and the bus communication programs in the application layer were programed based on the operation system.Finally, the function test was conducted for the realized communication controller. The test results indicated that, the communication controller which has been designed and implemented in this article has completed the relevant functions and reached the initial design purpose.
