The methods of sandpaper rubbing and laser engraving were used to prepare side emittingoptical fibers that give out color lights with different luminance in this article, respectively. Andthe3W light emitting diode (LED) with R, G and B3basic lights was used as light source ofoptical fibers. Then the luminance and chromaticity of these optical fibers were measured byTOPCON BM-5A luminance colorimeter, and the results are meaningful for research aboutchromaticity of optical fibers. At the end of this subject, an optical fiber fabric treated by laserwas designed, and the fabric with a designed circuit can display different patterns with colorfullights.For sandpaper rubbing method, the weight of load and sandpaper are constant, and gettingthe deeper rubbing degree by increasing rubbing times. The optical fibers bands were rubbed indifferent degree respectively. Then this optical fibers bands rubbed were measured luminanceand chromaticity. And the results show that there are many scratches can be seen on thesurface of optical fibers bands when they emits, the rubbing time is positive to the abrasingdegree, the rate of decay of optical fibers rubbed as the same times with different light sourceis similar, for the same optical fibers, the red light is bluer, the blue light is greener and thegreen light is bluer along the length of optical fibers, in contrast, the red light is yellower, theblue light is redder and the green light is yellower.For laser engraving method, the parameters but engraving distance of the CO2laser machineis constant, and the engraving distance is different to engrave different optical fibers bands inthis article. And the focus engraving distance of the CO2laser machine is15.5cm. So, theburning degree of the optical fibers with engraving distance close to15.5cm is deeper. And theoptical fibers with mixed engraving distance can emit brightly and evenly. Then the luminanceand chroma of the optical fibers burned were measured. The results show that the engravingdistance is closer to the focus distance, the burning degree is deeper and the optical fibers are brighter, and according to the principle of conservation of energy, it was noticeable that thelightness of the50cm position with more rubbing or burning was tending to less than theothers, the brightness differences among the far-light positions were also smaller than thebeginning; for the same optical fibers, the red light is bluer, the blue light is greener and thegreen light is bluer along the length of optical fibers, in contrast, the red light is yellower, theblue light is redder and the green light is yellower.The relationship between luminance and the length of optical fiber was fitted through thesoftware of origin lab in this paper, and the fitted result shows that the luminance changeregular of side emitting optical fibers made by burning and rubbing is the same.Finally, some optical fiber fabrics that can emit different color lights with different emittingshapes were made through sandpaper rubbing, laser engraving and circuit designing in thepaper. And the high-power LED and the process methods make the optical fabrics bright andcolorful.
