With the development of multimedia applications, the radio resource of low-frequency band can not meet the increasing demand for the signal transmission rate and bandwidth. In recent years, countries around the world have been opened near 60GHz frequency bandwidth greater than 5GHz unlicensed band, so as to achieve ultra-high-speed transmission of Gbit/s 60GHz wireless communication system has received extensive attention of academia and industry. With the deepening of various studies and the development of related protocols like IEEE 802.11 ad,60GHz millimeter-wave communication has become a hot spot direction of future wireless communications.Meanwhile 60GHz wireless communication has anti-interference, high security, high transmission rate and high bandwidth advantage, due to the physical characteristics of its millimeter-wave band, and has a large transmission loss, easily blocked, high directional and other characteristics, makes 60GHz networking research faces many problems and challenges. Therefore, how to establish an efficient and reliable 60GHz millimeter-wave wireless communication network, is still a problems need to explore and solve. In this paper, based on the characteristics and research status of 60GHz millimeter-wave and the related research and application of the current, a hierarchical heterogeneous 60GHz millimeter-wave IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN networking architecture is proposed. The core is that, different from a traditional homogeneous network which the control and business information transmission in a single network, it’s a hierarchical heterogeneous network which the control and business information separated. The network is divided into control subnet and business subnet, respectively in 5 GHz band and 60 GHz bands. Due to the different nature and role of the data transmission, the kind and scope of coverage, the protocol, and the underlying technology, are not the same. While the organic separation, the introduction of hierarchical heterogeneous management sub-layer concept, making the two subnets but also to organic complexes, In this paper, this architecture is described in detail, and studied the related protocols and technologies of the architecture implementation. Finally, by building a network scenario model, each 60GHz heterogeneous network and homogeneous network is simulated. Simulation results show that the stratified model of heterogeneous network can significantly improve system performance, which is more suitable for 60GHz of millimeter-wave network. It has a certain reference value for the related research on future 60GHz millimeter-wave communication network.
