The development of communication increases rapidly. In3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release10(Rel-10) and Rel-11, the hierarchical heterogeneous wireless network is introduced, which could improve the link quality and spectral efficiency, and is an effective way to solve the problem of macro coverage holes. Low-power nodes (small cell) are deployed in macro network to meet the ever-increasing traffic demand. Based on this network topology, the small cell evolution (SCE) is introduced in Rel-12. Hierarchical heterogeneous wireless network is an advanced method of solving the high traffic demand in the future, and has important application prospect. The high dense and cluster deployment of low-power node and non-uniform traffic are main characteristics of hierarchical heterogeneous wireless network. The deployment of huge number of low-power nodes may cause more serious interference, and the system energy consumption is much higher. How to reduce the energy consumption while guaranteeing transmission rate has become an increasingly critical issue.First of all, a brief introduction of the hierarchical heterogeneous wireless network is.given in this paper, which includes the scenarios and related technologies. The networking schemes characteristic is analyzed. Take the impact of high energy consumption into account, the user access and resource allocation schemes which can improve the energy efficiency are investigated. The main contributions of this paper can be summarized as follows:1. Networking scheme. This paper focuses on outdoor macro network coverage scenarios. For both networks using same and different frequencies, the influence of different parameters to energy efficiency is studied. The performance of spectrum and energy efficiency is shown with system-level simulation, which provides foundation for the follow-up studies.2. User access scheme. Based on same frequency network scenarios, research on energy-efficient access scheme is studied by using high dense and local coverage high capacity characteristics. The cell selection criterion of heterogeneous users is related to not only according the largest reference signal received power (RSRP), but also the energy consumption of base station. User access scheme of energy efficiency optimization is investigated.3. Resource allocation scheme. Based on same frequency network scenarios, the spectrum allocation scheme of low-power nodes is focused. Low-power nodes are divided into different coordinate groups by using dynamic coordination, and energy efficiency is maximized in each groups. With the system-level simulations, the research above is modeled and verified. The results show that the proposed schemes can effectively improve system energy efficiency while maintaining system spectrum efficiency.
