Substrate-Integrated Waveguide(SIW) is regarded as a new alternative to the traditional rectangular waveguide, with metal coating on the upper and lower surfaces of the dielectric substrate, and two rows of periodically distributed plated holes around the edge equivalent to electrical wall. SIW limits the electromagnetic wave in the region made by the metal plating layer and the through-hole, similar to the rectangular waveguide. Besides similar transmission characteristics with traditional rectangular metal waveguide, SIW has certain characteristics of microstrip line, such as high Q, strong anti-jamming capability, low radiation loss, light weight, small size, cost low and high integration. The author‘s major contributions are outlined as follows:1) A conventional microstrip dual-band circular polarization antenna for narrow corridor environment was designed, working at 2.4GHz and 3.6GHz, with VSWR less than 1.6, Gain amounted to more than 3d B and axial ratio less than 3.2) Based on the transmission characteristics of 3D E-plane corner, a dual-polarized antenna working from 8GHz to 12 GHz was provided. Artificial Bee Colony(ABC) was applied to get best values of structure parameters. Measured results, matching well with the simulation, suggested an excellent performance within the experimental frequency range.3) Based on substrate integrated waveguide feed network, a Vivaldi array antenna working over X-band was designed, with the overall size of 56mm?72mm, gain amounted to 11.75 d B and cross polarization less than-20 d B.4) Miniaturized dual-mode substrate integrated waveguide filters have been studied.The cross-slot structure and T-shaped cross-slot structure has 25.56% and 53.76% sizereduction compared with conventional dual-mode SIW filter, reaching the goal ofminiaturization.
