In recent years, radio frequency identification(RFID) technology in academia and industry has achieved rapid development. This technology will be applied to supply chain management, electronic payment, RFID passport, environmental monitoring, target detection and tracking, medical care, food industry, national defense military monitoring; and RFID is the basis for the realization of pervasive computing, Internet of things. RFID and wireless sensor network(WSN) integration, linking the physical world and virtual world, will provide the most direct, the most effective and most real information. RFID and WSN have the characteristics of complementary technology, flexible combination, the most suitable for the realization of ubiquitous computing. So RFID technology is currently one of the highlights in agro-scientific research in the international academic front, and UHF radio frequency identification technology, in particular, is developing very quickly. Based on RFID technology at domestic and abroad and the relevant specification, therefore, combined with the scattering of passive RFID system research present situation and the engineering application needs, application of the theory of electromagnetic field, microwave, etc passive back scattering is studied, including RFID system modeling, propagation characteristics, effective aperture and the effect of antenna parameters on the system identification distance. This paper first summarizes the RFID technology, including its development course and its very wide application fields; Second, start from electromagnetic field theory, the theoretical basis related the passive back scattering RFID system, including the electromagnetic radiation intensity of division, the main parameters of the antenna and the energy transmission of passive back scattering RFID system, have been stated systematically and detailedly; then discussed the RFID tag antenna model; finally analyzed data transmission problem of passive back scattering RFID system, including discussions for positive transmission link model and reverse transmission link model, data coding and electromagnetic energy transmission problems. The result provides the intentional reference for the systemic research of passive back scattering RFID system, at the same time, also provide theoretical basis for research and development of RFID products.
