With the continuous development of social economy and insurance market, there is a growing demand for insurance among people. However, the traditional ways of counters and agents cannot meet the needs of the insurance business any more. On the one hand, the cost of the agency business is increasingly high; on the other hand, the customization of the traditional insurance products still lacks convenience and the entire life cycle for the development of the insurance products is time-consuming. The establishment of the insurance card system enables the flexible customization of insurance products; Internet activation is adopted to greatly expand the insurance sales model; the insurance products are equipped with the insurance card system so that the cost and time for development are significantly reduced; all these allow insurance companies to obtain an advantageous status in the competition of products with strict requirements for timeliness. Hence, it is imperative for insurance companies to build a highly-flexible and easily-extensible insurance card system to develop and sell insurance products.In this study, the current situation and background of the development and sales of the traditional insurance products are first analyzed and the necessity of building the insurance card system is emphasized. Based on the full knowledge of the function and performance requirements of the system, function modules are divided to design the system’s physical and software architecture and evaluate the selected technology. At last, AXIS2 Web Services, Struts2, Spring, IBATIS and other frameworks are selected, coupled with AJAX techniques like DWR and JQUERY, to conduct a detailed analysis of the design and implementation of the system. Since the insurance card system is developed on the basis of the traditional insurance, an interaction between the insurance card system and the traditional insurance core system is needed. The AXIS2 engine is used to generate and release the critical services provided by the insurance core system. In this way, the decoupling between the insurance card system and the insurance core system is achieved, thereby improving the system’s extensibility and reusability. AJAX techniques like DWR and JQUERY are adopted in front page of the system to perform the no-refresh dynamic request operation and enhance the user experience. Frameworks like Struts2, Spring and IBATIS make the splitting of pages, the transaction control and the persistent programming easy and efficient. J2EE framework provides a simple, component-based development model, which improves the efficiency of development and solves the cross-platform issue.The building of the insurance card system contributes to the effective improvement in the flexibility of the insurance card product customization, the shortening of development period, the reduction in development costs, the expansion in sales channels and the enhancement in the competitiveness of insurance companies. It not only brings tangible economic benefits for insurance companies, but also provides new insights and methods for the innovation of the future insurance products developed by insurance companies.
