The prosperity of a country and a nation largely depends on the populace’s cultivation of the whole country. And the populace’s cultivation largely depends on the education of the country. Our country is a large agricultural country and the development of rural areas is in relation to the future of the whole country. Actively and effectively improving social environment in rural areas and accelerating the development of their economy, politics, culture, education have a fundamental role in promoting the prosperity of the entire country. Throughout history, although rural education in China has been greatly improved, there are still a lot of troubles in education of rural areas, especially the remote and poor rural areas of our country. There are still many problems in rural education development. For example, the policy system is imperfect; the construction and management of teachers in rural areas should be strengthened; the education problem of rural left-behind children becomes increasingly prominent; the education gap between urban and rural areas continues to widening; the rural students dropping out of school is still a serious problem; the attention that governments pay to rural education is not enough; the funding for rural education is inadequate; the rural primary and secondary schools layout is not reasonable and so on. These problems and contradictions have caused widespread concern in the mass media.Among the numerous mass media, China Education Daily is a newspaper focusing on education report. As a newspaper sponsored by the Ministry of Education, China Education Daily can accurately, timely, adequately and comprehensively report state major policies on education, reflect problems demanding prompt solution in the field of education and the development situation and future trends of our country’s education. By virtue of its own characteristics and advantages, China Education Daily gets the trust and concern of government workers, educators and people who care about education and becomes the carrier and platform where they can propose their opinions and discuss the further development of China’s education. Therefore, this thesis selects China Education Daily as its research object and selects China Education Daily’s rural education reports as its study samples. This thesis selects the time from 1993 to 2013 as its study time zone. To begin with, based on the national education policies from 1993 to 2013, this thesis divides this historical period into four stages to make phased study of China Education Daily. After that, in the overall longitudinal study, this thesis selects China Education Daily’s rural education reports in even-numbered years from 1993 to 2013 as its study samples, since the number of samples is sufficient. In addition, this thesis selects the year of 2003 as a time node and pays special attention to the changes and features of China Education Daily’s rural education report before and after 2003. The reasons are that, firstly, since Dr. Wen Tiejun put forward the issue of agriculture, farmer and rural area in 1996, this issue has been attracting much attention of the party and the government. And the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China formally wrote the issue of agriculture, farmer and rural area into the government work report in 2003. Secondly, "The Decision of the State Council on Further Strengthening Rural Education" was promulgated in national conference on rural education held in 2003, which was the first national conference on rural education since the founding of New China. This meeting clearly put forward that rural education was a top priority in education work and the country should spare no pains to solve the weak links in the development of rural education. This thesis is divided into six parts to discuss its research issue. The first part is an introduction, which mainly introduces the research background, object, purpose, significance, status, methods, sample collection, framework, innovations and difficulties. The second part analyzes China Education Daily’s rural education reports in different periods. This part makes an analysis of China Education Daily’s relevant reports respectively from the four stages, which are the Teacher’s Law promulgating stage, the vocational education reform and development stage, the western region’s "two basics" crucial stage and the preschool education reform and development stage. The third part is an overall analysis of China Education Daily’s rural education reports.
