ITU-R rain attenuation prediction model is introduced in this paper. The rain attenuation time series of Beijing, Q ingdao, Guangzhou and Haikou are simulated according to the ITU-R rain rate parameters, using both E M-B and Markov methods at 12.5GHz and 20 GHz. The power spectral density of simulated rain attenuation series are calculated. The comparison results with measured values at 12.5GHz are analyzed, which shows well consistency. The ITU-R prediction methods of fade slope and fade duration are described. The occurrence probability of fading events at different threshold values are calculated, which based on the 50 rain attenuation time series produc ed by both E M-B and Markov methods. The comparison with ITU-R prediction results and measured values are analyzed. An ARIMA prediction model of short-time rain attenuation time series is set up according to simulation rain attenuation data of E M-B method. The characteristic of spectral and fade statistical are calculated at Beijing, Qingdao, Guangzhou and Haikou, which show the available of ARIMA method. The occurrence probability of fading events of 3dB threshold value are predicted by ARIMA model at 12.5GHz. The comparison result of prediction and actual values indicates that ARIMA method is available. A methodology is described for the simulation of rain rate distribution based on rain cell theory. The cumulative attenuation for terrestrial paths passing through rain fields is calculated. Those results are significant for the research of rain attenuation at K-band and the development of fade mitigation techniques.
