With the continuous updating of the electronic equipments in may fields, such as the modern communication, radar and electronic warfare, much more rigorous demands is need to be meet for the antenna which acts as an important part in the system.The wide-band and high-gain antenna array attracts more and more attention in recent years,because of its important theoretical significance and practical value. This thesis, based on the practical project, focuses on the electrical properties and practical applications of the ultra-wideband taper slot array antenna. The author’s major contributions are outlined as follows:Firstly, the power divider and feeding of the taper slot antenna(TSA) are studied. By analyzing the structure and impedance characteristics of the feed balun for the ultra-wideband taper slot antenna, the performance of the structure which consists of the antenna unit and a portion of power divider is simulated and analyzed. In this way, the design process of the whole array can be simplified.Secondly, the electromagnetic properties of one TSA element which is placed in the infinit array are studied. One ultra-wideband slot antenna which has a microstrip line to slot line conversion structure is designed by utilizing the strong coupling between antenna elements.The active VSWR and radiation characteristics of the TSA are analyzed comprehensively by changing the different strctural parameters. In order to improve the stability of the structure, the support frame is introduced in the antenna array.Its influence on the antenna performance is simulated and analyzed.The microstrip-slot line conversion TSA is studied and the possibility of dual-polarization for the TSA is discussed..Finaly, the finite ultra-wideband TSA array is studied. One oblique polarized ultra-wideband TSA array which comprises of seven TSA groups is designed.The coresponding operating frequency is from 0.5GHz to 2GHz. The antenna elements are placed along the 45 degree direction and the array is axisymmetric.The coupling between each TSA group can be adjusted using a metal plate. For the sake of the stability of the antenna structure, a solid supporting frame is introduced in the arraymodel and its impact on the array is simulated. Finally, the TSA array is fabricated.The measured results verify our design stratergy partially.
