Millimeter-wave satellite-earth MIMO communication systems represents a trend of the Millimeter-wave communication technology.This paper focuses on millimeter-wave satellite-earth MIMO channel fading coefficients model and its BER performance, mainly involving clear and rainy environments.The main contents are as follows:The physical and dielectric properties of troposphere are introduced in clear and rain. The atmospheric turbulence, atmospheric dielectric properties, atmospheric refractive index are discussed in clear, and the size, velocity, the rainfall intensity, the common rain drop size distributions, the equivalent dielectric properties are introduced in rain.The transmission characteristic of the millimeter wave in clear and rain are investigated. The atmospheric attenuation, atmospheric scattering, atmospheric scintillation effects are presented in clear. And the scattering effects, attenuation effects and the envelopment probability density function properties induced by rain are demonstrated. The effect of clear and rainfall on the millimeter-wave communication system noise temperature are investigated.The millimeter wave satellite-earth MIMO communication system fading coefficients model in clear and rain are derived, and correspondingly, the channel gain are discussed.Based on the channel fading coefficients model and the simulation conditions, the BER performances of STBC, STTC and VBLAST in clear and rain are emulated and investigated for a 2×2 satellite-earth link at 30 GHz in circular polarization as an example.The result shows that MIMO communication technology is an approach to contend with loss, fading and noise, etc. The results given in this paper are important and valuable for exploiting the millimeter wave satellite-earth MIMO communication systems.
