Research On The The New Youth Magazine In The Period Of The Puppet Manchuria

Since the eruption of Mukden Incident in 1931, the Japanese colonists coerced the Chinese into stopping the publish of local newspaper for the purpose of governing public opinion and propagandizing the colonialism. The Japanese colonists founded news agencies, Manchuria public information association and promulgate laws to make Manchukuo’s news industry under close observation since Manchukuo was founded. After three regulations in news agency, the Japanese colonists set up the system of Manchuria public information association. Through promulgating laws, setting up censorship and strengthening management, the Japanese colonists put Manchukuo’s news industry under direct control, gradually implemented the overall monitoring in news industry of the northeast china. Under the destroy of Japanese colonists, the number of newspaper in Shenyang sharply dropped from 9 to 2 because of Mukden incident. Meanwhile, the Japanese colonists exerted large efforts to foster Japanese puppet newspaper and periodicals to propaganda colonialism ideology.The first issue of New Youth in 1935 was the magazine to whitewash the Japanese colonists. New Youth was sponsored by the Mukden province, issued under the name of the Mukden province bureau.This thesis analyzed New Youth from the study of journalism and communication. Based on historical materials, the author analyzed the layout,issue and materials of New Youth in detail and explore the concept of editing and features of publicity in that special historical period.The preface of this thesis briefly introduces the New Youth background, significance and author’s study approach. The main body can be divided into four parts. The first part introduces the background of the issue and the propaganda agencies and policies of the Japanese colonists. later, the thesis introduced the purpose, founder and market positioning of New Youth. The purpose can be concluded from the address and postscript of the issue. Then the thesis will discuss the layout and release to detect the uniqueness of New Youth.The second part of the thesis focuses on the materials of New Youth. One major material is political comment for the purpose of advertising ideas and leading the public opinion. One material is literary works which focus on individuals conveying sentimental emotions. Anther material is casual life reading, providing rich life experience and creating relaxed reading atmosphere.The third part of the thesis concludes the features in issue of new youth. Through analyzing, direct and indirect advertising methods can be used to lead the public opinions.The last part is the summary of thesis, although New Youth was claimed a comprehensive periodical, it acted as the mouthpiece of the Japanese colonists. The moment Manchukuo collapsed, New Youth would inevitably came to an end.
