The advent of WiMAX technology infuse the field of Broadband wireless communications with new energy, meanwhile, it brings along new challenges and opportunities as well. This innovative technology not only pushes forward the implement and development of so called "Last Mile" in broadband wireless network but also accelerates the pace of global broadband wireless access. Consequently WiMAX has drawn worldwide attention among specialists and scholars in the area of wireless communication.Undoubtedly, handover strategy, which could be divided into vertical handover and horizontal handover and plays a crucial role in the operation of WiMAX, is one of the determining factors of its performance. In this paper we try to make two improvements focusing on the handover strategies defined by the IEEE802.16e, in a hope to improve the performance of Mobile Terminal’s handover.Base on the numerous study of handover strategies defined in IEEE802.16e, we analysize and compare the average number of handover and their energy consumption, then we come to a conclusion, that is the proposed handover strategy based on fluctuation threshold, which recalculates the H_Add Threshold every time according to the present macro diversity so as to increase the chance of succeeding.On the second place, we also propose a goal-oriented handover strategy. Once we get enough data of the Mobile Terminal about its speed, accelerated velocity and coordinate position, it can be quite easy to predict the next spot. Therefore, it is likely to reduce the average number of handover and energy consumption leading to a better performance of WiMAX network.
