Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers is a new type of optical amplification device which is depend on four wave mixing (FWM) effect. Compared with the traditional optical amplification equipment, such as erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), the Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers has a larger bandwidth, higher gain, lower noise coefficient and other significant advantages. And it is considered to be one of the most promising optical amplification technology in the field of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system and all-optical network. So this type of optical amplification technology becomes hot research area in optical amplification. For an amplifier, the gain bandwidth, the gain peak and crosstalk characteristic are the most important indicators for its evaluation. In this thesis, we combined with the genetic algorithm and numerical simulation model of fiber optic parametric amplification, and do our research with the simulation software. The specific work of this thesis mainly includes the following three aspects:Firstly, the basic theory of fiber optic parametric amplification has been carried on with careful research. The four-wave mixing and some other nonlinear effects are also analyzed in this thesis. And the process of energy conversion between light waves has been cleared. The numerical simulation model has been established for both the one-pump and two-pump cases without pump depletion. In the same time, we got a simulation model for the cases of that pump depletion has been considered by forth order Runge-Kutta method. The effect of pump depletion on the gain characteristic of the FOPA is emphasized, and the effects of the fiber length, the wavelength, and the power of two pumps on band-width, flatness, and magnitude of the gain spectrum are also studied. According to the presentation, fiber length and the wavelength of the two pumps are selected to be the variable parameters in the GA. With the numerical simulation, the optimum combination scheme between those chosen variables could be obtained by the algorithms with the result of the gain optimization of FOP A.Finally, the universal formula for calculation of the noise of the optical amplifier has been analyzed. Focus on crosstalk caused by idle light generated in four-wave mixing effect., with the simulation software, the different performance between equal and unequal channel spacing have also been studied. The effect on reducing crosstalk which is caused by idle light have be confirmed by simulation.
