Microwave was developed as early as in the 1930s and then applied to the communication industry. With the continuous development of microwave technology, knowledge about microwave heating characteristics and application of microwave energy are getting deeper, microwave heating technology continues to develop in depth. What’s more, scope of application of microwave energy is constantly being expanded and new areas is applied. Microwave heating is a new heating method, material is directly heated through energy dissipation, characteristics of selective heating, rapid heating, volume heating and short reaction time and so on. Therefore, to carry out research on microwave heating has important significance on getting more in-depth understanding of the microwave heating characteristics, the efficient use of microwave energy.Microwave heating has two energy conversion processes, from electricity to microwave energy and from the microwave energy to heat. Actual data of energy conversion efficiency in the microwave heating process is still lack, the factors which affect the conversion efficiency of the heating process is also lack of understanding. Based on this, with water as a typical medium, we designed test to quantitatively measure energy conversion efficiency from energy to microwave energy and microwave energy to thermal at different factors, analyzed and studied the variation of the microwave energy efficiency, so as to provide optimization for microwave heating performance. Meanwhile, in the field of microwave heating, microwave dielectric absorption characteristics are drawing more and more attention. The strength of the medium absorbing characteristic behavior directly affects the temperature of the medium in the microwave field. At the same time, the role of strong absorbing media in the microwave heating and sludge treatment field becomes more obvious. However, measurement method for the medium microwave absorption characteristics is relatively simple; there are many problems in conventional measuring methods. In this paper, based on the thermal effect of microwave heating, medium was quantified by measuring the microwave energy absorption capacity. The method effectively characterize and analyze the factors affecting the medium absorbing properties, provide a basis for further study microwave absorption properties.Firstly, with water as the primary heating medium, quantitative determined the energy and microwave energy and heat in microwave heating process. Ensuring other experimental conditions remain unchanged, analyzed the effect of microwave output power, heating time, the volume of the medium, type and placement of medium on energy efficiency, provided a theoretical analysis on the factors affecting the energy efficiency, In the microwave heating systems the conversion efficiency from net energy to microwave energy η1 maintained at about 0.6. This value indicates that the use of microwave systems there is still much room for improvement. Media Location in the microwave cavity, the type of heating medium, heating time, microwave power and heating medium vessel geometry may all become the affecting factors.Secondly, based on different microwave absorption characters in the microwave field, this paper proposes a method to effectively measure microwave absorption capacity. Select paraffin oil as a heat storage carrier, the media was dispersed in paraffin oil, through the heat absorbed by paraffin oil and medium, microwave-absorbing capacity was compared by analyzing factors affect the microwave absorption characteristics like mass media, microwave power and size and other. Application of media with different microwave absorbing ability showed strong advantages in material handling, compound decomposition and waste disposal. Mechanisms of interaction between microwave and medium has significance for the application of absorbing material, developing new heating method under conventional heating conditions.
