At present, most of the sights have no function of range measuring. Only a small number of sights have a simple function for measuring range.Since the method is to engrave the reticule with some division lines and to read approximately distance value by eye, there is a considerable error. Some of the sights with range-measuring function use solid YAG laser; therefore they are large in volume and short in life span.In this case, we have developed a sight adopting semiconductor laser as light source for range measuring. This sight features simple structure, small volume, light mass, high reliability, long service life, low cost, and so on, thereby having obvious superiority in short- and medium-range measurement.Compared with other lasers, the semiconductor laser has characteristics of large divergence angle, ellipse far-field light spot, and the existence of astigmatism. In order to ensure the energy concentration during light beam transmission and to increase the accuracy of measuring range, it is essential to use an optical system for collimating and reforming. This paper elucidates laser range-measuring theory, illumination characteristics of semiconductor laser, as well as laser collimating technology. The detailed calculation and aberrational correction analysis have been done on the design of telescopic optical system, laser emission optical system and laser receiving optical system. In addition, it gives a brief introduction of optical image quality evaluation and aberrationa tolerance.
