In recent years, many people would prefer to travel by railway, so we pay more and more attention to the safety of railway stations. Improving the safety of stations, reducing accident rates and maintaining comfort and safety is becoming a new area of research.We analyze the current safety methods and measures of domestic railway stations and discover potential security problems and weaknesses. We, then developed a new system that increases performance and security. By using sensor networks to get vital environmental information in stations such as harmful gases, electric leakage or persons entering danger areas, the system, then calculates the station’s comprehensive situation via analysis and judgment of potential danger in a central computer, and alerts security guards to adopt appropriate measures. This improves the security level in stations and increases the response capabilities to disasters. It also has an important practical significance in ensuring the passengers’ safety.Through analyses of nodes in sensor networks, we select proper sensors based on the environmental requirements, design distribution plan for nodes,explain some matters needing attention in design work, give the method for the node for sampling switches and analog signal. Finally, we developed the software and hardware for the nodes.Using the technology of sensor networks, and being concerned about the characteristics of rail transit, we design the network architecture, adopt proper network protocol for the system, develop gateway for transmitting sensor data, and describe the design process of software and hardware.Through the sensor node network deployed in rail transit stations, the system can monitor and give early warning in the three areas mentioned in this paper, collect signal data from sensors and send data to the central server for visual monitoring.
