With the rapid development of industrial automation, the demand of automatic detection technology in industrial production is becoming more and more urgent. Based on this requirement, the intelligent industrial camera system taking machine vision theory as foundation and the embedded SOC system as the platform has got more and more attention. This paper presents an intelligent industrial camera system applied in industrial inspection, and introduces the design and work principle of this system in detail from three angles of overall scheme, hardware scheme and software scheme. This system ultimately chose Spartan 6 CSG324 of Xilinx Company as the main control chip; CMOS chip MT9M001 of MICRON Company as image sensor, GigE Vision protocol as the image transmission protocol, and DDR2 as the system buffer. For the intelligent camera of this scheme, the main work includes:1) To understand the working principle of the image sensor, and design the image acquisition interface correctly; 2) To understand the controlling method of each chip in system, and master IIC and SPI protocol to control the image sensor and Flash chip; 3) To understand the method of image processing, and use FPGA to realize the image pre processing function of the hardware, so the image processing part will be integrated into the interior of the camera and realized by hardware to improve operational efficiency; 4) To use the GigE Vision protocol, and send the data to the computer through the Gigabit Ethernet port; 5) To design the debugging method of camera parameters, and realize camera control interface through the host computer and the XML file; 6) power control.Main problems to solve for the intelligent camera of this scheme:1) the low speed of traditional PC scheme in image processing; 2) machine to replace artificial product detection in industrial production; 3) transmission failure of the traditional camera at a high speed.
