Vehicular ad-hoc network(VANET) can effectively enhance the driving experience and traffic safety, which is a kind of new mobile ad-hoc network that has practical needs and broad prospect. VANET has characteristics of a huge-scale network and an open wireless channel that makes it necessary to guard against internal and external network security threats, and thus information security and privacy protection has become key issue of VANET studies. Rigorous testing and verification of VANET must be implemented before it is put into use, of which field trials cost is very high and thus study via simulation platform is a effective way to verify VANET system.Based on in-depth study of security and privacy threats of VANET, we analyze the characteristics of distributed authentication architecture and cloud computing technology in VANET, and focus research on cloud-based VANET security and privacy protection mechanisms in order to solve the problem of information security and privacy protection while providing intelligent transportation services by introducing related protocols and technologies. Additionally, based on in-depth study of working principle of VANET simulation platform iTETRIS, we propose related improvements and extensions programs which have been implemented in engineering. Our main research works are summarized as follows:1. Propose a hierarchical cloud-based vehicular networks security architecture model. This model, combined distributed authentication with cloud computing technology in VANET, is divided into three levels including authentication center in central cloud, authentication center in local cloudlet and OBU protection module in top-down manner. Analysis shows that this model has better safety than the RSU-based distributed authentication model and has practical deployment capabilities and scalability.2. Propose a pseudonym managerment scheme based on cloud-based vehicular networks security architecture. In this scheme, we design a trace protocol with tripartite participation and a certificate revocation mechanism based on counting Bloom filter that can effectively reduce malicious attacks against certificate revocation. Performance analysis shows that the scheme is superior to existing schemes in aspect of the control of CRL size and time complexity of the revocation operation.3. Improvement and extension for vehicular networks simulation platform iTETRIS. To deal with the inconvenience of vehicular networks scene designing, we design and realize traffic modeling software which improves the efficiency of simulation scene designing. To deal with the requirement of simulation platform extension, we design and realize the security module extension which solved the problem that vehicular networks security scene simulation can not be performed owing to the lack of key simulation entity.
