With the development of information and the widespread application of Internet, servers are increasingly frequently used in every fields to provide informationalizedservice, ranging from corporations to institutions. The traditional server management hasmany defects. For example, it is far from being timely or practical and takes up too muchresources. Apart from that, it is unflexible and couldn’t conduct remote management. Thus,it is difficult for it to meet up with the growth in servers nowadays. Regarding with theabove problems, it is useful to explore a more effective and reliable management method.BMC(Baseboard Management Controller) is a mainboard processor specialized formanaging servers on the basis of ARM architecture. It is supposed to transform thecorresponding embedded Linux and embedded WEB servers and communicate withsections of the server board through Intelligent Platform Management Interface protocol.BMC offers three types of outer interface to users, and management staff control over theservers indirectly through the IPMI messages sent from those outer interface to BMC. Thistype of management is a kind of management between band based on software andouter-off-band based on hardware. In terms of band management, it will lead in theJViewer that can redirect, ensuring the intelligentized advantages of operation. In terms ofouter-off-band management, it will develop a sub-management system independent of theservers operating system through BMC, so as to manage stably, instantaneously andeffectively. Meanwhile, due to the introduction of ARM architecture, it will cost the BMCa little.By a series of designs to BMC, it proves that this kind of new management style isreliable in stability, instantaneity and efficiency. After bringing in this kind of management,it will only need a fewer staff to control a great many server groups conveniently, makingthe servers becoming more intelligentized.
