In the present stage, for most of the water treatment factories’ flocculation effecttesting lag, they put forward a new detection method. Using CCD digital camera devicecaptures flocculation water samples images in the different periods in the process offlocculation. As a series of image processing using MATLAB software, they analyzethe total number and area of the alum flowers in water samples, the average area,maximum particle size, mean grain size, minimum particle size of the alum flower.Then they look for the number distribution, area distribution and particle sizedistribution of alum flowers. According to these rules they find an inherent relationship,which can detect the coagulation effect rapidly and accurately.In experiment study, they sample the12coagulation stage of coagulation reactionpools at the first phase of water treatment plant in Tangshan north suburb. Then theyphotograph the samples with simple experimental apparatus at scene. Later, they tailorthe useful parts of these photos which preprocessed by MATLAB. At last, they useMATLAB software for data analysis, obtaining the corresponding results and relatedcurves.As the results, the total number of alum flowers has similarities with a total area ofthe curve in coagulation process each group. The change tendency increases first andthen decreases roughly, but change range is different. There must be a maximum and aminimum, and the initial value close to the end value. It is a good way to test thecoagulation effect for the characteristics of alum flowers. They make use of theMATLAB data and detect the coagulation effect by the final scores through the analysisof the curve trend. It shows that there is a new detection method which can detect thestand of a coagulant coagulation effect rapidly and accurately. It provides a certainreference for the waterwork automation control in the future.
