With high frequency, the field programmable gate array FPGA can satisfy the highspeed data processing requirements. The high-end FPGAs can support the frequency ofhundreds of megabytes, and they have stronger capacity to process information; TheFPGA board works more stably, and it can process more complex problems. Theapplication of FPGA has extended from a very narrow domain such as communicationinfrastructure to a very broad field now.Advances in technology have elevated the importance of the Internet in economicdevelopment. The availability, quality, and competitiveness of broadband service havebecome and will continue to be a key issue for many locations. At present, accessnetwork is the biggest factors restricting our Internet speed. To improve the bandwidth ofthe access network is the key to improve the bandwidth of the network.Firstly, this paper introduces the characteristics and the development of the HFCNetwork, and raises EPoC and DOCSIS3.1, which are at the frontier of research inaccess technology field. Compared with traditional access technology, the new generationaccess technologies, EPOC and DOCSIS3.1, have higher throughput and higherspectrum efficiency. They are the direction of research and development in accesstechnology field in the next few years. The paper introduces the system structure of EPoCand DOCSIS3.1, analysis their MAC layer protocol and PHY layer protocol, anddiscusses optimization scheme implementation based on FPGA for the DOCSIS3.1MAC layer; then the paper focuses on the implementation based on FPGA of several keymodules in the DOCSIS3.1MAC layer, and the detailed design scheme is presented. Finally, the paper introduces the simulation test of DOCSIS3.1MAC layer, and analyzesthe test result.
