Microwave photonic filter is a kind of device in order to process the microwave signalsin the optical domain. It has many advantages such as low loss, high bandwidth, light weight,immunity to electromagnetic interference, tunability and reconfigurable. Due to its potentialapplications in the radio over fiber (ROF) and optical phase array antenna system, theinvestigation of microwave photonic filter becomes a hot research topic around the world.The main contents of this thesis include:(1) The operation principle of microwave photonic filters is introduced. After dividedthe microwave photonic filter into two kinds, we put forward several important parameters,both in optic and electronic domain, to evaluate the performance of microwave photonicfilter, including the number of taps, weight coefficients, time delay and window function.(2) A new type of microwave photonic filter based on multi-wavelength fiber laserstructure is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. First of all, optimization of themulti-wavelength fiber laser in gain medium and window function of programmable opticalfilter are theoretically carried out. Then, we characterize all used optical component andfinally realize the proposed microwave photonic filter.(3) A new kind of fiber, multi-core fiber, is analyzed in the application of microwavephotonics, especially in the field of microwave photonics filter. We complete the design ofthe multi-core fiber.
