Spatial reasoning is one of the main research field of artificial intelligence.Over the past years, it has been paid more and more attentions, in the fields ofgeographic information science, cartography, spatial cognition, spatial database queryretrieval, computer vision and so on. Generalized spatial reasoning is a kind of abilitywhich can locate their own position in the daily environment. This capability existsmore or less in every animal or person, which makes the range of study spatialreasoning very broad. Specifically, spatial reasoning, mainly formalize, express andreason relations between spatial objects through the qualitative and quantitativeaspects. The research relations mainly include: direction relations, topology relations,distance relations, shape relations and so on, which direction relations as oneimportant spatial relations, play a significant role in the study of spatial reasoning, theestablishment of the model, representation and reasoning, directly affects theexpression of spatial relationships, orientation and practical application.For the simplist case, the current directional model has been well described therelations between objects, however, taking the shape factors into account, theexpression of existing models is limited, such as: the directional relations betweenobjects which are entanglement but not exist public part, in order to overcome thisproblem, this paper proposes a new directional relations model-linear model basedon the cartesian reference coordinate system (LMCRCS), gives the direction relationsby qualitative and quantitative respectively,and the corresponding reasoning, asfollows:1. Introduce the work-related knowledgeIntroduces the background, purpose, significance, and research status of thepaper, outlines the work-related concept, the theoretical basis point set theory, intervalalgebra and algebra rectangle,gives the content of this article;2. Propose a linear model based on the cartesian reference coordinate system(LMCRCS)LMCRCS model describes directional relations quantitatively and qualitatively, gives the representation and formal quantitative of direction relations expression,correspondence between the quantitative directional relations and qualitativedirectional relations, the formal expression of the qualitative directional relations,correspondence between the basic directional relations and the rectangle algebra,LMCRCS model takes the shape and distance of the object into account, to a certainextent, reduce the impact of shape and distance on the directional relations betweenobject’s.3. Propose the reasoning of LMCRCS modelPropose the transformation from quantitative directional relations to qualitativedirectional relations, the inverse of basic directional relations, and the composite ofthe basic directional relations between objects, achieve the transformation fromquantitative directional relations to qualitative directional relations, as well as thereasoning of basic directional relations, reflects the integrity and reliability ofLMCRCS model.4. Propose the reasoning demonstration system of LMCRCS modelThe system can get qualitative reasoning directional relations between objectsbased on quantitative directional relations between objects, while reasoningdemonstration system can also get a inverse result of basic directional relations, and acomposite result of basic directional relations between objects, Straightforward toshow the quantitative and qualitative reasoning corresponding results.
