With the rapid development of science and technology, the research of wireless underground sensor networks has attracted more and more attention. Wireless underground sensor networks plays an important role in agricultural, industrial, and military. The main purpose of this project is to study the channel model of wireless underground communication. Meanwhile, the influence of environment on communication channel is also been analyzed. In order to establish the wireless underground communication channel model, a sensor node equipment which can work in the environment of wireless underground communication has been developed. After determining the hardware, the programming design has been completed. In actual test, this node device collects a large amount of useful data and lays a good foundation for the subsequent work. After analyzing of the existing theoretical channel models of wireless underground communication, the result shows that the lateral wave loss by object is the main reason of the influence of object to wireless underground communication ground. Through the actual test and data analysis, a loss model of the human ankle to lateral wave has been proposed. According to the data comparison, this loss model proved to be correct. Finally, a method of object location has been proposed in this project. This method only need the sensor nodes need the function of detecting the received signal strength to determine the location of target object and track the object’s moving path. According to design a dormancy mechanism, the sensor nodes have longer working time. According to simulating the monitor success rate and energy consumption, this method of object location has been further perfecting. The production of this project has important significance of establishing channel model and positioning the object’s location.
