In recent years, the rapid development of wireless broadband multimedia business has put forward even higher requirements for the modern information transmission and interactive technology.60GHz millimeter wave technology has quickly become the research hot spot. IEEE802.11ad doesn’t have any MAC layer recovery mechanisms for multicast technology, leading to the very low reliability of the whole system. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct in-depth exploration and research on the multicast technology of60GHz millimeter wave communication system. This paper first does the research work of the related standards, the characteristics and the current industry of60GHz millimeter wave technology. And then it mainly discusses the multicast transmission mechanism in the60GHz millimeter wave WPANs. Next, this paper proposes a new multicast protocol for the60GHz millimeter wave WPANs, putting forward a kind of node grouping algorithm and Leader training in rotation mechanism. In the algorithm, all the receiving nodes are divided into several groups and each group has a leader, who is responsible for the information interaction with the multicast source. Each time when a data packet is sent, the leader of each group would be changed according to certain rules. Each receiving nodes could have a chance to be the leader, which make sure that it could connect with the multicast source directly. Simulation shows that the protocol can not only improve the network throughput, but have great advantages in terms of time delay. Eventually the quality of the communication is improved. Considering the application scenario of multicast protocol and the characteristics of the data frame, in view of the different length of data frame, it is necessary to adopt a certain frame aggregation mechanisms to reduce the control overhead and further improve the system throughput at the lower packet error rate of channel environment. On the basis of fully analyzing the characteristics of the aggregate frame, this paper proposes a MAC layer multicast protocol based on adaptive frame polymerization mechanism. This protocol is improved from the multicast protocol based on Leader polling mechanism proposed earlier. Simulations show that it could increase the system throughput better and then the network performance is improved too.
