UWB(Ultra-Wide Band) wireless communication technology is one of most important solutions of wireless personal area networks (Wireless Personal Area Network, WPAN), which aslo including IEEE802.11b, Home RF, Bluetooth and so on. In recent years, UWB technology with high data rates and low power becomes more and more attractive and is regarded as a new pioneer technology for future work.We analyzed and designed the RF front-end for6-9GHz UWB Receiver in this thesis. This frequency band covers the high frequency band of China’s standard for the UWB spectrum, which also meet the policy of UWB spectrum in Europe, Japan and Korea. If we add another two frequency points probably, this frequency band will totally fit the band group#3and#4of Wimedia standard. The RF front-end in this thesis includs Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), Down-conversion Mixer and some supporting curcuits. The front-end consisited of Resistor-feedback LNA and folded I/Q Mixer is taped-out and measured twice, based on the first editon, we modified the part of varible gain and finally greatly optimized the performace of the front-end module and the whole receiver. In addition, we also made analysis on the single-in-differential-out LNA, and tape-out the front-end consisit of this kind of LNA and I/Q Mixer which employ current-bleeding-reuse technology. This thesis starts with the system indictors of MB-OFDM UWB. With detailed calculation of the system parameters of UWB receiver and the front-end part, we made the specifications of the front-end. The zeor-IF architecture is adopted finally after some comparisons of the common architectures of receicver, then detail module performance including input match, conversion gain, noise figure and linearty of LNA and Mixer was introduced. We made some comparitions of the two different architecture of front-end to give some reference to the designs follow-up.The final chapter discribes the implementation of our designs first, then measurement and simulaiton of the designs are introduced, including the measurement of the first version of RF front-end, the postlayout simulation of the second version, which can be based as the fundmental of the design next.
