Design And Implementation Of Community Library Management System Based On B/S Model

In the recent decades, humane knowledge about science and humanity has experienced an explosive expansion. A huge amount of books are published, which caused expansion of libraries. At the same time, the population has grown, together with the city. People living far from the library in a city are not willing to be forced to go to library themselves in order to query books or make reservations. The new reality requires a new solution in library management and service. Library management systems implemented with new information technology and Internet technology is the answer.Community libraries are small, usually with only thousands or tens of thousands of books in stock. Current library management systems on market are usually too complex and expansive for a community library. In this paper, a light-weight library management system using free JSP and MySQL technologies based on B/S model is proposed to provide a solution for community library.This paper reviewed the history and current trends of library management system development. Using software engineering analytic methods, the specific requirements of the system were analyzed. Afterward, a complete system design was given, including both the architecture of the system and the design of each function block in the system, and the database design. In the final sections, some real use scenarios and code snippets were given, and also the test method and result.Taking advantage of the platform-independent nature of JSP and MySQL, this system can run on any OS, including Windows, Linux and Mac OS. This powerful, user-friendly, high-performance and low-cost system is suitable not only for community libraries, but also all small libraries in elementary schools, middle schools or companies.
