In recent years, the way of people’s daily work and life changes a lot as the computer technology and Internet technology developing rapidly. Various services are constantly emerging along with the development of the information technology revolution, along with that, the size of the Internet and the performance and complexity of the network equipment increase sharply too. The above facts have led to an increase in energy consumption by network equipment such as routers and switchs. Therefore, people proposed the concept of green network which studies the energy efficient network communication technology. Studying energy-saving Interior Gateway Protocol can effectively reduce network power consumption, which is an important way to realize Green Network. In this thesis, an energy-saving routing QoS protocol based on OSPF is designed and implemented, which includes information sensing module, energy-saving routing module and sleeping administration module. In information sensing module, router’s information sensing ability is enhanced, making that the router can sensing more detaied information such as the QoS of the links. The energy-saving routing module take the responsibility to find the path which consume least energy among those candidate pathes which satisfy the QoS constraint. In sleeping administration module, the interface which satisfies the sleeping qualification can request for sleeping to the sleeping decision node. The sleeping decision node decides whether the sleeping request is approved, migrates the traffic before the port sleeps. This module also make sure the sleeping device will wake up at an appropriate time to update link information. The protocol is described by Colored Petri Net(CPN) and its properties of reachability, controllability, adaptability and energy-saving are verified. The energy-saving QoS protocol based on OSPF designed and impletmented in this thesis is deployed on prototype system and compared with OSPF. The experimental results show that the designed protocol not only can effectively reduce the energy consumption of network but also provide the QoS support for the service, which indicate the protocol has good performance.
