In recent years, with the rapid development of internet technologies, the scale of internet has been expanded, and a growing problem of energy consumption has been becoming more serious.Therefore, the concept of green internet is proposed to save energy consumption. Currently, the research on green internet has been the focus of domestic and international attention.In this paper, green internet routing algorithm and protocol are proposed.First of all, model of network, parameter of power consumption, parameters of QoS and mathematical model are designed. Second, a green internet routing algorithm is designed, which includes unicast routing algorithm based on the Chandy-Misra algorithm and Q-learn algorithm, one-to-many multicast routing algorithm based on the path nodes-driven least-cost shortest path tree algorithm, many-to-many multicast routing algorithm based on the dynamic niche self-organizing learning algorithm and blind mole-rats algorithm.At last, a green internet routing protocol is designed, which includes information sensing module, routing module, sleeping management module and protocol monitor module.In information sensing module, the information sensing ability of node is extended to collect and maintain the parameters of QoS and power. In routing module, the path which satisfies QoS requirements and consumes least energy is found with the implementation of algorithm.In sleeping management module, messages are sent to the low-load node which could sleep.It can achieve the saving-energy objective by putting the node into sleeping mode.In protocol monitor module, the running of various modules is monitored, the sensing cycle of message is regulated, and the updated time of path information is decided.The proposed green internet routing algorithm and protocol are implemented in prototype systems, and several performance metrics are evaluated. The experimental results have shown that they can effectively reduce internet energy consumption and have better performance.
