The tunable fiber filter, as an important device, has become a hot area of research, with the development of the optical fiber sensing technology and the optical fiber communication technology.Fiber Bragg Grating can reflect some optical signal which has the specific wavelength, and allow other optical signal to pass at the same time. The application core of Fiber Loop Mirror is how to control the phase difference between the clockwise transmission beam and the counterclockwise transmission beam so as to control the reflected light intensity and the transmitted light intensity. Therefore, this paper comes up with introducing Fiber Bragg Grating into Fiber Loop Mirror to form a kind of fiber filter based on Fiber Bragg Grating Loop Mirror. Some effective methods are taken to change the characteristics of Fiber Bragg Grating and Fiber Loop Mirror, in order to adjust the transmittance spectra of Fiber Bragg Grating Loop Mirror to realize the function of tunable filtering.The contents, studied in the paper mainly, are as follows:(1)Firstly, Fiber Bragg Grating and Fiber Loop Mirror are introduced briefly. Then, the paper puts emphasis on the introduction of the working principles and the comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the typical fiber filters existing at home and abroad.(2)The reflectivity mathematical model of Fiber Bragg Grating is built according to Coupled Mode Theory. Then, the paper studies the changes of the optical characteristics of Fiber Bragg Grating with its structure parameters. The transmittivity mathematical model of Fiber Bragg Grating Loop Mirror is built according to Jones Matrix Theory. Then, the paper studies the changes of the optical characteristics of Fiber Bragg Grating Loop Mirror with its main parameters.(3)The paper analyses the action modes of realizing the functions of the bandpass position tunability and the channel spacing tunability firstly. Then, the reliable action mode is chosen to design the tuning device. The parameter values of Fiber Bragg Grating Loop Mirror are confirmed at the same time. Finally, the paper studies the tunability of the filter characteristics in theory.(4)The experiment system is set up to study the tunability of the filter characteristics experimentally. The experiment results are as follows:The3dB bandwidth of the filter bandpass is0.4nm; the tunable wavelength range of the filter bandpass is4.32nm; the bandpass position tunability sensitivity of the positive process is0.107nm/mm; the bandpass position tunability sensitivity of the contrary process is0.105nm/mm; the channel number is5,6,7, and the channel spacing is0.061nm,0.053nm,0.040nm respectively.A kind of tunable fiber filter, which is based on Fiber Bragg Grating Loop Mirror, is studied and designed in the paper. The bandpass position and the channel spacing are tunable simultaneously. The fiber filter has the development space and the application value.
