The future development trend of the wireless networks is the coexistence of a variety of radioaccess technologies (RAT). In this heterogeneous wireless network system, different wireless accessnetworks present very different in technical and operational capacity. In order to provide mobileusers with seamless and high quality service, advanced radio resource management (RRM)strategies are necessary to configure a variety of wireless resource, in order to achieve theintegration of heterogeneous wireless networks, thereby shielding the heterogeneity of networks andrealizing the network integration. The main works are as follows:I. The thesis introduce radio resource management (RRM) control modes, and point out thegeneral framework of joint radio resource management (JRRM) algorithm. Then, its three keythchnologies: Joint call admission control (JCAC), Load balancing (LB) and Vertical handoff (VHO)are introduced.II. Firstly, based on the heterogeneous network convergence scenario, a new user-oriented jointadmission control algorithm (JCAC) is introduced, in order to realize the matching between usersand the networks. Then, its performance is verified through simulation.III. Considering the characteristics of load imbalance between different access networks and thestability of the network system, based on WLAN and UMTS fusion architecture, a novel adaptiveload balancing algorithm (ATLB) is proposed, in order to achieve efficient resource utilization.Simulation results show its effectiveness.IV. According to the characteristics of heterogeneous networks and users’ demand for seamlesslyconnection, the necessity of switching to WLAN and the property of switching from WLAN areresearched. Furthermore, taking the context of mobile terminals and networks into consideration, anadaptive vertical handoff algorithm is proposed, and simulation results show its effectiveness. Finally, the thesis summary the full text and at the same time introduce the future researchdirections.
