With the development of computer technology and network communication, satellite network isplaying a more and more important role in telecommunication, economy, and military fields. And asthe satellite network expands, we must take management issues into consideration. This essay proposed “A fault-detection strategy for GEO/LEO satellite network based onclustering”. By implementing clustering theory, this strategy enables automatic fault detection inGEO/LEO satellite network, which means in the future, fault management mechanism of GEO/LEOsatellite network could not rely on the telemetry system in ground station which is greatly restrictedby geographic factors. And because of its automation, the proposed strategy is more suitable formilitary applied satellite networks. In this essay, we firstly introduce satellite network, GEO/LEO double-layered satellite network, existed fault detection methods of satellite network, and the non-applicability of those existedmethods when applied to military environment detailedly. Then, we propose a fault-detectionstrategy based on clustering for GEO/LEO satellite network to enable automatic fault detection andmilitary application. And finally, we take related experiments on NS-2simulation platform to verifythe function and performance of proposed strategy. Results of simulation show that, the proposedstrategy can meet the requirements of fault detection well. What’s more, because of theimplementation of “discontinuous model”, there are less inter-orbit links, and therefore, the linkcomplexity has been reduced. But, unfortunately, the proposed strategy takes more time and systemresource when searching fault satellites.
