The discontinuities of planar transmission lines are a common problem in the microwavecircuits and monolithic and hybrid microwave integrated circuits(M(H)MIC’s), and also acomplicated as well as significant work for theoretical analysis and engineering applications. Thewave reflection and high-order modes introduced by planar discontinuities and parasitics exert agreat influence on the propagation properties of circuits. Analysis and study of removing thediscontinuities of planar transmission lines are the key to the success of design and optimization ofmicrowave circuits, and also ensure the properties of circuits. The calibration in microwavemeasure can help solve the discontinuities problems. In this thesis, the models are built for simulations based on short-open calibration(SOC),acquire the S-parameters of error boxes in short and open elements from the3-D electromagneticsimulation package, and then put them into the derived formula to deduce the network parametersof device under test(DUT), thus completing the SOC calibration procedure of planar discontinuities. The advantage of this thesis is that we acquire the network parameters of DUT without developingresearchers’ own complex electromagnetic algorithms programs (e.g. MoM, SDA, FDTD, etc.).Through the numerical calibration techniques embedded in the electromagnetic simulation softwareleads to fast and accurate simulation and optimization of microwave integrated circuits and RFcomponents. Compared to traditional calibration schemes such as Thru-reflect-line (TRL), SOCrequires only two elements: short and open, whose procedure is simple and concise. Additionally,SOC is also suitable for the accurate calibration of lumped and electrical small circuit elements.Implement the simulation and calibration combine with python script language throughembedding the SOC into the script. This thesis analyse four microstrip discontinuities cases withembedded SOC script technique, give validation analysis to the feasibility andversatility of thisproposed scheme in low frequency. These may be further study and application.
